Happy 21st Brian Hwan!!!

Happy 21st birthday little brother. It's pretty amazing how quickly you've grown up, and now to think you're almost out of college? Wow. Here is the ode to Mr. Brian Shin Hwan! (i don't think anyone will fully appreciate it other than you)

Brian and I grew up sports nuts, and that is a complete understatement. Every morning we would wake up before school and make a race to the LA Times for Section C, Sports. Whoever got it first would take their jolly good time reading it while the other one would just stare and read the back page in agony. I won most of the time, but it's ok, I was doing it to make Brian stronger. Between the both of us I think we knew everything about sports, and all we would do was talk about sports day and night.

We also played a bunch of sports as well. Soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, hockey, etc. We tried anything we could get our hands on. Remember how I broke my toe playing barefoot soccer? That was during halftime at my brother's game. Heck, my brother even hit me with a golf ball while hitting with a putter on the 5th hole at DeBell. We also tried emulating everything on TV too. Remember the Olympics where Korea did well in short track? Guess who was practicing 30 minutes later in the garage in roller blades? We practiced playing hockey goalie with a baseball glove, and practiced pitching like Bob Ojeda (who was a lefty, even though we're both righties) in the living room. Yeah, we were nerds, but who cares? We actually thought we could make it to some professional league someday.

We collected cards too, of course. Every week we would take our allowance down to Kings and put our money down to buy a pack of cards. They were definitely a waste of money, but it was a way for us to get closer to our favorite sports players; for me it was Nick Van Exel and Frank Thomas, for Brian it was Orel Hershiser, Dikembe Mutombo, and Darryl Strawberry. We even had baseball card folders where we would keep some of our cards. Again, being the good brother that I am, I charged Brian 25 cents to write the sports names across the tabs, in cursive.

Brian and I used to play every single sports game that was out there as well. Tecmo Bowl, Bases Loaded, Madden 94-2006, NHL '94, that ghetto World Cup soccer game where all the guys look the same and where it makes that tsktsk sound when you dribbled, FIFA, Super Tennis, NBA Live, World Series Baseball, Triple Play, Fuji Golf, Tiger Woods, you name it, and we probably walked over to Goodtime Video to face the mean Korean guy to rent that game. We even rented freaking a rugby game once. We didn't even know how to play the game because there was no instruction booklet so we just mashed buttons for a little while. The name "Brian Hwan" also comes from video games too, because you couldn't spell out his full name on the records page for Madden. Being the good older brother that I am, if Brian ever got close to beating me I would turn off the Nintendo right before the end of the game so that he couldn't bask in his glory.

Just from reading this post you probably think that I was the worst brother ever, and I don't think you'd be far off. I was selfish and for some reason always wanted the upper hand, because as I started getting older I realized that my brother was actually better than me in most things. Now I think it's safe to say that I'm really proud of how great my brother turned out. He's the fastest Korean I know, very nice, smart, funny, and most importantly, can beat me at most video games. So this post is for you Brian, in hopes that the pain I've inflicted on you so far in life won't keep us from getting closer.

  • shot

  • is it hot or just me
  • hot/cold moist towelette
  • fat/fatso
  • beef and bamboo SHOOT
  • floozy
  • hater
This post sucks. I thought the list was going to be all long because we've gone through so many phrases in the past 10 years, but I can't remember anything right now. Please help!!!!!!!!

I usually don't play these games, but because John has nice legs, here you go.

I've been tagged! (by John Song)

Music Tag:

THE RULES: List five songs that you are currently loving. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now.

Post these instructions, the artists, and the songs in your blog (Xanga). Then tag five other Xanga/LiveJournal friends to see what they're listening to.

Edit: I usually don't listen to specific songs, just albums, so here are 4 albums and 1 song.

1. Trillville - Some Cut
- This song has some classic lines that all rappers should learn from. Hahahahaha:
- Bed squeaking
- "What it is"
- "On your phone or somfin"
- Wow, some dude was just playing the intro at work. Hahaha.
2. John Mayer - Heavier Things
3. Jason Mraz - Waiting for My Rocket to Come
4. Common - Be
5. Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams

I tag:

1. Brian
2. Butch
3. Andy
4. Hiyas
5. Nancy

I've got to say that I have a real knack for wasting time. I've spent the last 45 minutes going through all of my previous blog posts. It's kind of sad that I spent so much of my life in Soda.

On another note, here are five things I'm thinking right now:
1) Rachel Bilson, please marry me.
2) Maria Sharapova, you are a nice tennis player
3) Pulling an all-nighter makes me feel like I'm in college all over again.
4) Hamster cage
5) So tired...

Come to think of it, our generation was the one that ushered in the Internet. To commemorate this realization, I've come up with a list of the classic SN's of the 90s. Here they are, in no particular order:

SVT3020, T2000J (TJ): I think the first one has something to do with a car. The second one brought us into this millenium. Thanks to TJ for the ride.
Acktupac, Ackmase, Ackdre, Acknotorious, Ackeminem (Andy): I’ll leave it to you guys to remember what this stands for.
JkDxAnne (Annette): Jigoo Klass Distributaz baby!
KulDude75 (John): I love this dude.
ChiangBang (Kevin Chiang’s cousin): This was what started his nickname.

I can’t seem to remember any more right now, but I’ll make sure to edit this post once I start recollecting the awesome SN’s of the past. Man, good times.

Happy 5th Baby!

Can you believe how quickly time has flown by? I don't wanna be all mushy and post in public on how much I care about you and how happy I am and how extremely lucky you are to have a ridiculously buff boyfriend, so I'll elaborate in a card.

Extreme Fatness

And last but not least....

Vienna sausages!!!

LOVE YOU BABY!

The Japanese see things differently

Got this from a co-worker:

This is a sign that asks people to give seating priority to those with arm injuries, people with kids, pregnant women, and people with leg injuries.

Just awesome.

Here are some pictures from the long weekend:

Covering up the Party Boy with sand.

Mr. Pimp and Potty Mouth Girl

Anybody want some cookeeeeeeeeeees?!!!!!?!?!!!! One chin, two chin, three chin, four.
The more I look at this picture, the funnier it looks. There's an endless number of possible captions!

Bailamos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An old favorite

Sorry for the lag, but here are some things I learned in Japan:

1) You can smoke anywhere. I was eating ramen and had the nasty combination of ramen steam and cigarette smoke coming into my face. It was a very unpleasant experience.
2) Bidets are......... interesting.
3) Harajuku girls are scary
4) A Nigerian man came up to me holding up a picture of clothing, and tried to sell me marijuana. Now that doesn't happen in the States!
5) Everyone wears black suits
6) When you press the "Close Door" button in the elevator, it actually closes! It's not like the elevators here where you push the button, wait for 5 seconds, watch as 4 more people walk in, wait for 10 more seconds, and then it slowly begins to close and you think you're going to move, but in reality someone comes by and presses the up button and you start all over again. The buttons respond like they do in the movies! You could probably run into an elevator and actually get away like they do in Terminator.
